Mr. Kevin Summers is a servant leader with an awareness of social emotional learning and the
differences that each generation brings into our schools and classrooms. In his keynote address
at the NMCEL Summer Conference 2023, he will enlighten audiences to how we each
understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for
others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. It is
ironic that the conference theme is “Connections” because the take away from Kevin’s keynote
is “We tend to build bridges between those who are like us and walls between those who are
different. The greatest growth comes when we fight this inclination. We need others who are
different from us to stretch us and force us to grow. We need them to be close enough to
provide accountability and balance. We must be able to build bridges of relationship with
others than can bear the weight of truth”.
