DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Although under the general supervision of the Principal, this position is independent and the incumbent must exercise discretion and judgment in setting priorities. The Counselor works with students, teachers, parents, and administrators to ensure that student' educational, vocational, and emotional needs are being met. The Counselor helps students toward selection of the academic fields that best meet their educational or vocational goals. A primary responsibility of this position is to help students with school, personal, social, and family problems that affect classroom behavior and academic progress. The Counselor may provide parenting, individual and small- and large- group counseling and crisis intervention. Other activities may include classroom presentations, co-sponsoring student clubs (i.e., Student Council), providing in-service training for staff members, facilitating suspension meetings and retention hearings. Performs any other job-related duties requested by any person authorized to give instructions or assignments.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor Degree in related field. Current and valid State of New Mexico Licensure in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or Social Work required.
**Must also have a current and valid State of New Mexico driver’s license, be insurable, and no DWI convictions within the past five (5) years. Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol and background clearance check.
